Free Radical Scavenging activity in Methanolic extract of Musa paradisiaca peel.

Abstract

Musa paradisiaca (Banana) is one of the oldest cultivated plants. Methanolic extract of peel of Musa paradisiacawas subjected to in vitro free radical scavenging assays like DPPH, ABTS and lipid peroxidation inhibition assay. The antioxidant potential was determined by different mode of assay to confirm the total antioxidant capacity. The results obtained were analyzed . Significant free radical scavenging activity was exhibited in methanolic extract of Musa paradisiaca peel. The study indicated methanolic extract of Musa paradisiaca has high free radical scavenging activity. Hence could be useful to combat free radical mediated diseases.
